Alice Notley

The last page of one of the most important works to me – Alice Notley’s The Descent of Alette.  Beyond the fact that it pushes verse and storytelling into thrilling ground, what separates The Descent of Alette from other contemporary works that do this, is that it somehow rings true to past, present and future in every moment.
